About Amy

Amy Frykholm is a novelist, journalist, poet, podcaster, and non-fiction writer. Her debut novel High Hawk has been long-listed for the 2025 PEN/Hemingway Award.  

Her body of work spans various genres, exploring themes of spirituality, mythology, culture, and the complexities of human relationships. She invites readers to reflect deeply on their own experiences while illuminating the world around them.

Notable for her keen observations and nuanced storytelling, Frykholm’s writings often delve into the intricate tapestry of human experience. Her ability to capture the subtleties of emotion and context allows her work to resonate deeply with readers. 

Born in Flint, Michigan, Frykholm was raised in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She attended St. Olaf College and earned a PhD in Literature from Duke University. She received a Fulbright fellowship to teach in Kyiv, Ukraine. Her work has been supported by the Citizens and Scholars National Fellowship Foundation and the Louisville Institute. Her journalism and podcasting have won several national awards.
